Both ReverbNation and TuneCore/iLike Reveal New Solutions for Indie Artists

20 October 2008 One Comment

Within a week, two new digital distribution/internet promotion solutions for independent artists have been unveiled by major players in the game.

On October 14th, ReverbNation’s Lou Plaia announced that the popular promotion/marketing platform has added a new digital distribution package that will place an artist’s music in 10 major internet stores for a flat annual fee of $34.95. This service adds on to a myriad of of other helpful tools, many free, such as an artist profile, online street teams, and a sophisicated fan email system.

Today, Billboard.biz reports that TuneCore, the groundbreaking digital distribution platform, and iLike, a promotion/social networking/music discovery platform, have bundled their services to provide a streamlined, value-added solution for their users. With their systems, artists can use both platforms under one agreement?

So, which one will come away on top?  Only time will tell. Later this week, I’ll provide an analysis of both services.  It will be interesting to see how each service plays out. There’s been a lot of in the past year or two about indies getting their music on iTunes and the other digital services, but all of that is pretty worthless if the music isn’t marketed properly.  There are plenty of albums in digital stores that no one has heard of because of lack of promotion and marketing “know-how”.  Both services should be able to get the product into the stores. The one that can equip artists with the proper marketing tools, knowledge, and promotional network will do best in the long run.
